Fitness Boot Camp
 
Get fit this summer in our new six-week fitness boot camp! In a supportive environment, instructor and personal trainer Doug Salmon will challenge you with a high intensity workout emphasizing large muscle group and body-weight exercises that include jumping, squatting, and light weights. Designed for students looking for greater motivation and challenge in their exercise regime, this boot camp is guaranteed to raise your heart rate and make you sweat! Please dress comfortably, wear supportive footwear, and bring a water bottle.

QiGong Outdoors
QiGong (or Chi Kung) is a gentle yet powerful set of meditations and exercises that focuses on building physical health and inner tranquility. These practices harmonize body, breath, and mind as you learn stillness within movement and movement in stillness. Reduce stress, get a physical workout, build energy, and develop self-awareness. This course is suitable for people of all ages and levels of physical conditioning.

Tai Chi Outdoors
Join in learning this gentle yet powerful form of exercise that can be practiced for the rest of your life. Tai Chi is a movement and exercise discipline that develops balance, centeredness, and peace of mind. Yang-style Tai Chi is an integral part of traditional Chinese medicine and is used to increase energy and reduce stress. Instructor Dani Riggs is a local psychotherapist who has taught Tai Chi since 1984. Students are strongly encouraged to also enroll in Dani's QiGong class (earlier the same evening) for an enhanced Tai Chi experience. Class is held at Whatcom Hills Waldorf School.

Yoga for Gardeners
Gardening, like yoga, honors the cycle of life. All gardeners are drawn to the mysteries and beauty of nature, and yoga, too, is an exploration of the mystery through connection with body, mind, and spirit. This class is for anyone who loves to garden and wants to stay healthy and free of strain or injury. We will practice yoga stretches and strengthening postures for before, during, and after working in the garden. All levels of yoga and gardening experience are welcome. Please bring a blanket. Yoga mats will be provided. Class is held at the YWCA on the corner of N. Forest and Maple.

Simply Yoga: Restorative Poses
Expand your exploration of yoga through restorative postures that are passive, deeply nourishing, and restful--a wonderful addition to every student's personal practice. Emphasizing being rather than doing, we will use a variety of props to create full body support as we sustain poses that open the body and lead to an exquisitely deep relaxation experience. Students will learn how to sequence the poses for optimum benefits. Please bring 2-3 blankets to class; mats and other props will be provided. This class is for students who have taken beginning level yoga classes or have taken at least one 8-week session of Simply Yoga. Class is held at the YWCA on the corner of N. Forest and Maple.

Join the Pilates movement and experience incredible benefits! Improve your core strength, posture, energy, and flexibility with this popular form of exercise. Designed for exercisers of all levels, Zumba is a fun, fast-paced, and easy to follow routine that combines Latin dances--Salsa, Merengue, Flamenco, and more--with strength training for an effective overall workout. Pilates Retreat at The Chrysalis
Bring your understanding of Pilates to a new level as you indulge yourself in this day of exercise and deeper learning. Instructor Ella Eastham will begin the morning with a flowing Pilates class to wake up your abdominals, followed by an interactive class to heighten your understanding of muscles and anatomy. In the afternoon, you will learn the significance of correct posture with specific exercises targeting your shoulders, back, and neck. The final hour will focus on how to release tight muscles and relax to create balance and a feeling of tranquility to promote overall well-being. All levels of Pilates practitioners are welcome. Please dress comfortably and bring a thick Pilates mat. Lunch break from 12:30-2:00 p.m. Class is held at The Chrysalis Inn & Spa. Instructor Ella Easham is a STOTT certified Pilates instructor and PTA.

In this engaging course, learn how to increase your personal happiness by understanding what happiness is and isn't, and what you can do to create and enhance authentic happiness in your life. Instructor Melanie Springer will present 12 scientifically proven practical strategies enabling you to increase your satisfaction in work, love, and play. Based on the research of Sonja Lyubomirsky, Ph.D., course will focus on developing your own personal character strengths as you practice these strategies, resulting in amazing and lasting benefits. Melanie Springer has a B.A. in Psychology and a M.A. in Counseling Psychology with a focus on Positive Psychology. She is a dynamic and inspiring teacher who is dedicated to educating others about the "how" of happiness.

Introduction to Full Body Massage
Come and learn how to give a soothing full-body massage to friends and family in this hands-on workshop. Instructor Marie Matteson, licensed massage practitioner and counselor, will guide you step-by-step through how to give a massage, using techniques practiced by professionals. She will also discuss how to apply massage oil or lotion, avoid fatigue, and determine situations where massage is not recommended. All participants will have the opportunity to both give and receive massages, so sign up with a friend, spouse, or significant other for a relaxing experience! Please bring shorts, t-shirt or sports top, two sheets, a sleeping bag or blanket, a water bottle, and a sack lunch to class.

Your Body is Talking... Are You Listening?
In many schools of thought it is widely believed that our positive and negative words and thought patterns "shape" our body and affect our consciousness. Join instructor Marie Matteson and discover the top ten words that promote good health and wellness. She will also show you how to use kinesiology techniques to identify and decipher why you feel the way you do. In addition, class will explore how certain foods can affect you and you will learn to test yourself for foods that may be stressful for your body. Instructor will provide dairy and wheat food products to test using kinesiology methods in class; you are encouraged to bring any other foods you would like to test. Marie Matteson is a local Licensed Massage Practitioner and is Wellness Kinesiology certified. Please bring a sack lunch. Session is closed.

Letting Go of Clutter: An Introductory Workshop
Clutter drains your energy, gets in your way, distracts you from what's important, and doesn't have a real place or use in your life. Physical clutter is often connected to mental and emotional clutter. Whether clutter is a minor annoyance or a major issue, this workshop is an important first step in creating the space for the life you want to live. Carolyn Koehnline, MA, LMHC, is a local psychotherapist in private practice. She has taught clutter classes and workshops for many years and takes a creative approach to helping adults navigate the practical realities of life.
